What is the default?

Default is an English word that means “initial value, specified value, default, abstention.” Sometimes abbreviated as “defo”.

In the
IT
context, default settings refer to the settings that are pre-installed when using a device or software. If the system has default settings, users can use the system with minimal preparation without having to enter settings. If users want to change the settings to their own preference, they often just need to change the appropriate default settings.
Also, in software or programming, a value assigned to avoid a situation where the value of an item or variable does not exist is sometimes called a default value. By setting a default value, you can prevent errors that may occur if the value is not set.
It is also sometimes used in the financial field to mean “default”. Specifically, it refers to a situation where the issuer of a bond delays or suspends payment of principal or interest, or where it becomes difficult to return the principal.
In the field of sports, it means retiring and refers to relinquishing one’s rights or abstaining from the sport.
