What is AMP?
AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) is a mechanism for displaying mobile pages at high speed, and is a new technology that Google is focusing on.

According to Google, 60% of users turn to mobile first when researching something. However, 53% of users abandon a page if it takes more than 3 seconds to load. Research also shows that
decrease by 7% if display time is delayed by 1 second.

Displaying mobile pages instantly helps prevent users from leaving. AMP is attracting attention as a technology that speeds up page display speed.

How AMP works

AMP loads the page’s layout and statically sizes all resources before the resources are downloaded. Additionally, when loading resources, you can prioritize the most important resources at the time. These implementations can drastically reduce the loading load and allow pages to be displayed at high speed.

By leveraging AMP, Google aims to provide faster and better mobile sites for all users. We are also considering using the same code on multiple devices so that mobile pages can be displayed instantly from any mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.
AMP is relatively easy to implement and is being adopted by companies around the world, including Japan. According to Google, 600 million pages from 700,000 domains are indexed.

Looking at examples from overseas, the Washington Post, a major American newspaper company, was able to speed up the startup time of supported pages by eight times by implementing AMP. In addition, the auction site “eBay” has succeeded in displaying compatible pages in less than 1 second.
